Star Trek The Next Generation: Where Are They Now?
5. Wil Wheaton
Perhaps the most divisive character in the Star Trek universe—in that fans are divided between those who merely loathe him and those who truly hate him with all their hearts—Wil Wheaton’s Wesley Crusher is such an irritating presence, particularly early in the Next Generation’s run, that his name has become synonymous with any character who does nothing but drag down an otherwise-functional team.
Sure, some fans find Wesley charmingly inexperienced and sweet, but they’re few and far between and the irritation levelled at the character hasn’t been helped by his actor’s choice of projects.
Wheaton’s post-Trek career capitalizes on his Generations image, with the actor mostly playing himself or some form of self-parody in shows ranging from The Big Bang Theory, to Bill Nye Saves the World, to Netflix’s Mystery Science Theatre 3000 revival, to a cameo in Supergirl, to, er, something ominously titled the Wil Wheaton Project, as well as occasionally voice acting in the likes of Netflix’s Stretch Armstrong TV show.
