Robert Bloch, author of the novel Psycho, penned the script for this second season show, and it represents one of the series€™ darker adventures. While on shore leave on a peaceful planet, Scotty is accused of the murder of a young exotic dancer. When others are murdered, apparently by Scotty€™s hand, he is put on trial by the Prefect Jaris.

This is a Jack the Ripper story, and makes the list because of it. It€™s a classic murder mystery: a corpse, a murder weapon, suspects with alibis, red herrings, a trial and the surprise reveal of the true murderer at the episode€™s climax, Perry Mason fashion. The only science fiction element that intrudes on the murder mystery genre is when the Enterprise computers are utilized to determine if witnesses are telling the truth. Memorable Line: "In the strict scientific sense, Doctor, we all feed on death. Even vegetarians." - Spock
