Star Trek: Top 10 Underrated Next Generation Episodes

5. Power Play

power play trek Okay, this episode is just great and I don't get why it doesn't get the credit it deserves. A highlight for the Troi, Data & O'Brien characters when their bodies are hijacked by non-corporeal beings that claim to be the bridge crew of a long lost Federation starship who want to return home. The only problem is they shoot up Ten Forward and take hostages to prove their point, something very uncharacteristic of Starfleet officers, regardless of the perils they've been through. The crew must work to rid the beings from the three bodies, save the hostages in Ten Forward and find out if these beings are telling the truth. Considering his superhuman strength and intellect, seeing Data bent with rage is a rare treat, one that was arguably pulled off here far better than it was in "Descent" two years later. Also, who knew Troi of all people would make such a convincing villain? I'm sure it's the concept of a mutiny in Ten Forward that doesn't appeal to all who watch, making this episode stand among other average ones. I personally see it as one of the top highlights of a rather touchy fifth season.
