Star Wars: Clone Wars Season 7 Review - 4 Ups & 3 Downs From Unfinished Business

3. Anakin Vs. Trench

The prequels' treatment of Anakin's fall to the darkside was always frustrating. He went from 0 to 100 pretty quickly, slaughtering innocent Tuscan Raiders "like animals" (his words) after only a few of them killed his mother.

However, Anakin's treatment of Admiral Trench in this episode feels like a much more natural piece of his turn to the dark side. He runs off on his own to confront Trench, holding him at lightsaber point to get the last digit of a code that can defuse a bomb. Trench finally gives in, and then quickly attacks Anakin, who kills him without a second thought.

These are the kinds of moments that the prequels should have used to foreshadow Anakin's turn. In the moment, we cheer for them, but they have sinister undertones which are impossible to ignore. It's not hard to imagine this Anakin becoming Darth Vader, but still fighting for good for the time being.
