Stargate: Every Villain Ranked Worst To Best
11. The NID/The Trust
Probably the most realistic villain faction in the Stargate franchise, the NID started out as a civilian oversight organisation, who then mounted their own Stargate team to steal alien technology. They acted without any military protocol and happily stole from Earth's fledgling allies like the Asgard, the Tolan and the Tok'ra. Their central belief was that they needed to take what was required to survive, not ask nicely for it.
Over time, the rogue elements of the NID were flushed out (quite literally into space in regards to Colonel Frank Simmons) and the organisation become more of an FBI-like group, becoming trustworthy. In response, those rogue elements then went on to form a group called The Trust, serving the corporate interests of various large companies who wanted to backwards manufacture alien technology for every day use on Earth.
Essentially, The Trust become driven by out and out greed. As time went on, they tried to launch their own private war against the Goa'uld, to wipe them out and steal their tech, but were infiltrated and taken over by the Goa'uld. They would eventually fall under the influence of Athena and Ba'al, but their story was never resolved.
