Stranger Things 3 Trailer Breakdown: 13 Things You Need To See

12. Teenage Wasteland

One big difference between this season and the last two is just how much the cast has grown. With more time passing in-between season 2 and 3 than the show had ever allowed to pass before, the entire core cast is (understandably) a bit more mature. Instead of running from this or attempting to ignore it, this trailer seems to indicate that the show is going to tackle the development head-on.

First up, there's the incredibly effective use of The Who's Baba O'Riley, whose central reframe is "it's a teenage wasteland". In a world full of trailers either using slow, melancholy covers of classic songs or jarringly slapping ill-fitting popular music on top of the visuals, this ever-so-slightly remixed version of the song fits perfectly with the actual content of the trailer.

Then, there's Mike's line about "we're not kids anymore". Judging from the footage seen, it's a safe bet to say that all of the core characters are going to be experiencing some growing pains this season as they mature from children to adults. With Mike and Eleven now officially in a relationship, there's a noticeably small amount of footage with them actually with the rest of the group.

This looks to carry over to the older characters as well, with Jonathan, Nancy, Hopper, and Joyce all experiencing problems of their own.
