Stranger Things Season 2: 9 Big Questions After The Super Bowl Spot
4. What Is The New Monster?
The Demogorgon wasn't the greatest monster ever put on screen, but based on what was required of it (only a limited screen presence) and the budget of Season 1 (not known, but it's been reported that the Duffers had to make changes because of constraints), it did its job well.
However, they're going bigger and badder for Season 2. Presumably the fact that the show was a runaway success means they've got more cash to play with, and they're ploughing that into the new monster, or at least that's what it looks like here.
We see a drawing of the monster that would later appear for real by the end, which may well be what Eleven (or Mike (or Will)) saw in her/his vision. We're assuming it comes from the Upside Down, although it doesn't look anything like the Demogorgon (indeed, it looks like it could eat the Demogorgon). Whether they've tipped their hand early, and this is the major new threat, or this is just one of several monsters to come remains to be seen, but it's certainly an impressive place to start.
