Stranger Things Season 2 Review: 9 Ups And 3 Downs

It's almost impossible to talk about sequels, especially for a show that references the Star Wars saga, without bringing up The Empire Strikes Back. Stranger Things 2 follows a lot of the hallmarks associated with that sequel, in terms of going bigger, darker, and further challenging its characters, and for the most part that all works.

If this is Star Wars, though, then Eleven is the Luke Skywalker. And like Luke, she has to go off on her own at one point, resulting in a subplot that feels totally at odds with everything else in the series.

The Eleven-centric episode is sure to be a divisive one, but it doesn't fit particularly well within the flow of episodes nor the show overall. Tonally it completely jars with the rest of the show, and the subplot overall is the most frustrating element of the season, both in terms of where it takes the character and how it stalls momentum.

Thankfully the show does get back on track though, and ultimately it's a sequel that delivers more of what people loved about the original, fine-tuning some of its issues, all while delivering some exciting new elements as well.
