Stranger Things Season 3: Ranking Every Character From Worst To Best

1. Jim Hopper

Hawkins' resident police chief is no stranger to character journeys - evolving from a grouchy officer still mourning the loss of his daughter in Season 1, to an unlikely parental figure for Eleven in Season 2. And this evolution cemented his place in the hearts of viewers.

Though his role in Season 3 was a little bit of a retread - a microcosm, if you will, of his entire journey on the show - it did present him with the opportunity to continue growing and, in doing so, confront his feelings for Joyce and, even more than that, experience some of the highs and lows of parenthood that was ripped away from him through his own daughter Sara's death.

Much like we've seen in the past with Joyce, Hop's narrative challenged him, forcing him to address how far he was willing to go for his child and, of course, we all already knew the answer to that. Thus, his apparent demise felt like an appropriate conclusion to the arc of a man who risked it all for love - something that he emotionally reminded us that he had forgotten how to truly feel.

Whether he's actually alive or not remains a mystery, but for the moment at least, Hopper went out like a hero. Despite experiencing a lifetime of sorrow, he had found something worth living for and, as a result, he found something worth dying for.
