Stranger Things Season 3: What Does The Ending Really Mean?
2. The Byers Family (And Eleven) Have Left Hawkins
The closing moments of the finale were, in many ways, a microcosm of the entire season's story as they illustrated that it was, very much so, the end of an era for our core group of heroes. Not only were they growing up (a lot quicker than any of them wanted to), they were leaving significant parts of their old lives behind - something that was personified through the departure of the Byers family.
In the aftermath of Hopper's apparent death, Joyce followed through on her word and decided to get her family out of Hawkins for good. With that, she put her house on the market and left with sons Jonathan and Will, as well as Eleven - and in doing so, she split up the show's Scooby Gang.
While it certainly seems like Mike plans to keep in regular contact with Eleven, it will be interesting to see if they actually remain in a relationship (the "I love you too" scene suggests so), or if time and distance have a major effect on the couple known as 'Mileven'. The same could be said for Jonathan's relationship with Nancy and Will's relationship with all of his friends.
With another time-jump destined for Season 4, we should probably expect some major relationship changes when Eleven and the Byers boys return to Hawkins. But will Joyce also make a comeback, or has she left town for good?
