Redemption arcs are always a risk, to take a character the audience isn't supposed to like and make them into someone that can be empathised with is a challenge that not every writer is up too. However, when done well it can also provide some of the most interesting and compelling characters, such is the case with Stranger Things' Steve Harrington.

In the first season, Steve Harrington was the typical 80s high school bully; self obsessed, cruel and immature. However, even in the shows early days there was clearly more to Steve, with the first real sign of change coming when he walked away from his friends who brought out the worst in him and helped Nancy and Jonathan to fight the Demogorgon.

Since then, Steve has become a fan favourite, growing more with each season and forming unlikely friendships with Dustin in the second season and his sarcastic co-worker, Robin in the third season. These connections continued to push Steve into bettering himself, and also allowed the audience to become more endeared towards him.
