Supergirl Season 4: 4 Ups & 1 Down From 'Suspicious Minds'

Down...

1. Been There, Done That

Supergirl Lena James
The CW

James Olsen and Lena Luthor rekindled their romance this week when the latter showed up at CatCo and apologised for being out of touch. James also apologised for not seeing things clearly and that, in the end, he understood that her interference with the D.A.'s case on his vigilante exploits was simply her way of protecting him.

Lena would later open up to him about the progress of her Harun-El experiments and how she's so close to giving humans superpowers. For some reason, James suddenly liked her plan and, what looked like it could have been an argument between the two was instead the beginning of a period of honesty between them. However, therein lies the problem.

Yet again, Lena wasn't completely upfront with him, leaving out the part about experimenting on a human subject who, unfortunately didn't make it. While it was clear that she never intended to hurt him, her failure to mention it just feels like the writers are setting up yet another confrontation between the two. Furthermore, it also feels like we are once again being teased with the possibility of another dark turn for Lena - who, most of the time, seems like one of Supergirl's truest allies. So, do we really need to be teased (again) with an angle that we know is never going to happen?

On a similar note, it also feels like James has just been written into Lena's story because the show is confused about what to do with him again. His "end justifies the means" speech was a not-so-subtle attempt of making us buy into the possibility that he might be okay with Lena's plans, when we all know he won't be. Thus, his behaviour right now is just bizarre.
