Supergirl: 6 Ups And 4 Downs From The Pilot

2. A Greg Berlanti Girl - Up

How you feel about this show, and more specifically its lead character Kara, may well depend on how you feel about Arrow's Felicity Smoak. Although the two shows don't have anything in-universe to do with each other (yet, anyway, though who knows what the future holds), there's a clear link between the two. Kara is intelligent, heroic though you'd never guess it, and awkwardly charming and funny. Put short, she's a Greg Berlanti girl. We've seen this for the past few years with Felicity, who's now getting back to her best in Arrow's fourth season, while The Flash has just introduced us to Patty Spivot, a bright-eyed, enthusisatic, funny, and of course awkward new character who'll be a love interest for Barry Allen in Season 2. Much like those two, Kara appears to be straight out of the Berlanti textbook. If you're in the camp who doesn't like those characters, then you probably won't care for this one. If, however, you recognise how awesome Felicity is, and already think Patty is a great addition to The Flash, then you'll like Benoist's character, and her performance is absolutely full of charm which makes not liking her really difficult.
