The Boys: 10 WTF Moments
7. Flight 37
One of the staples of superhero iconography is that of the hero saving a plane or its passengers from certain death. We've seen such feats of heroism in Iron Man 3, Superman Returns, and the Supergirl pilot episode.
So whenever we see superheroes flying towards a plane in catastrophe, we are condition to expect the best, most visually stunning outcome.
But this ain't your average superhero property, and Homelander ain't Superman.
After killing Flight 37's hijackers, resulting in the deaths of the pilots also, Homelander explains to Queen Maeve that saving the plane is impossible, and the two of them will have to leave the passengers who were cheering them on just moments ago.
This scene is incredibly powerful, and amplifies Homelander's villain status to new heights, as he dispassionately dismisses the please of the passengers and Maeve alike, refusing to save even one life.
What's worse, Homelander later lies to the media, saying that he didn't get to the plane in time, and using the tragedy to further Vought's agenda of militarising their heroes.
