7. The Brutal Action
As noted, the introduction of The Boys' powers have lead to some brilliant twists and long-awaited character confrontations, and whilst the more subtle drama remains of high quality, this season has been at its best when hitting audiences with action.
With thrilling choreography and emotional depth, season three's action sequences consist of fights between Homelander and Soldier Boy, Homelander and Butcher, and -- because he's finally been backed into a corner -- Homelander and Maeve. Even timid everyman Hughie has got in on the action, which has made for a great change.
Considering it's a show about superheroes coming to blows, the violence has been very brief until this season, and season three has made the most of the emotional turmoil and rich character development of its stars to make the action both necessary and shocking in equal measure.
The Boys has always been gratuitous, and whilst the increased action is far from pretty this time around -- there's lots of blood and plenty of nasty deaths -- it also feels vital to the next phase of the series' central war.
Going forward, it promises to only get more shocking and inventive. Speaking of which...
