The Flash: 5 Lessons It Should Learn From Lois & Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman

3. Keep It Simple

It can't be easy being a superhero, and we do all need help sometimes. However, the Arrowverse's tendency to turn every titular hero into the captain of their own team risks losing focus on the lead due to too many characters. Also when faced with a 4th season slump on writing for the lead, it becomes too easy to merely shift focus to new characters.

Cisco, Caitlin, and Wells were a great team to help Barry in the first season. Since then the number of people to have been on Team Flash has grown quite a bit, even if most of them disappear don't stay long. We've had Iris join (and inexplicably turn into their leader for no particular reason), Dr Stein, Ronnie Raymond, Joe West, Wally West, a fake Jay Garrick, real Jay Garrick, Henry Allen, Dr Tina McGee, Jessie Quick, Julian Alpert (what happened to him?), Tracy Brand, Ralph Dibney, DA Cecile Horton, and Nora Allen. To say nothing of an army of multiverse Wells, and all of Barry's crossover friends across The CW.

Superman eventually had Lois in on the secret and helping him in his efforts, but it was never "We are Superman". They had a couple of friends, but their operation was running lean and mean. The Flash has more great characters than they know what to do with or can manage. So many allies disappear without ever being mentioned again. Others don't get enough attention to be fully developed. Worst of all Barry grows distant in the crowd.
