The Flash Season 3: 5 Ups And 3 Downs From 'Magenta'

2. Too Many Cooks…

The Flash Harry Jesse Wells

The key figure of The Flash is, obviously, Barry Allen’s Sultan of Speed. For the most part, that should always be the case for the show. In Magenta, though, a brewing problem seemed more noticeable than most.

Yes, I’m talking about how the whole Team Flash group seemed a little too crowded here. You have to remember, part of the charm of the show’s debut year was the tight dynamic of a Team Flash that was just Barry, Cisco, Caitlin, and Harrison Wells (y’know, before he was revealed to be the uber-evil Reverse-Flash). Since then, Joe has become privy to the secrets of Barry Allen, using his position at CCPD to help out the team. Then there was bringing Earth-2 “Harry” Wells into the fold, not to mention his daughter Jesse. Then we had Iris finally learning Barry’s secret, and then the end of Season 2 saw Wally West being brought in on things, not to mention helping hands from the likes of Henry Allen, Martin Stein and Ronnie Raymond at times. And whatever happened to Harley Rathaway?

With Harry and Jesse having headed back to Earth-2 during the Season 2 finale, it was hoped that Team Flash may go a little more back-to-basics in its numbers (even if Tom Cavanagh is always a welcome presence). Here though, it just felt as if there was too much going on amongst the group, in turn doing a disservice to certain characters and making them feel like afterthoughts.
