The Flash Season 5 Finale: What Does The Ending Really Mean?
1. Thawne Is Responsible For The 2019 Crisis
When The Flash first hit our TV screens back in 2014, it wasted no time in revealing a future newspaper headline from April 2024 - which suggests that The Flash eventually vanishes in a supposed Crisis. Since then, so much of the show has been built around that approaching event, with none of the characters able to change the future to stop it from happening.
So when The CW revealed that this year's Arrowverse crossover would be none other than Crisis On Infinite Earths, fans were left a little puzzled as to why it's happening so soon. However, The Flash's Season 5 finale has given them all the answers they needed.
After Thawne revealed that the successful completion of his plan led to the creation of a new timeline, the finale's closing scene took us back to the time-vault where that infamous newspaper headline popped up on-screen. Gideon then informed us of an "incoming time flux" as the publication date began to radically change before finally settling on 2019.
While many fans had predicted that Nora's arrival in the present would indeed play a major part in Crisis' new date, the finale confirmed that the man responsible for all of it is none other than Barry's archenemy.
Given that the Crisis also played a major role in Arrow's season finale, it's safe to say that the 2019-20 Arrowverse season is going to be game-changing - and it's all because of the Reverse-Flash's master plan.
