1. The Brave And The Bold

Outside of classic musicals, what this episode owes its existence and plot to more than anything else is an episode of animated series Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

It's there that the character Music Meister first appears, in an episode fittingly titled Mayhem of the Music Meister. Similarly a musical episode, it sees the titular villain being played by Neil Patrick Harris (because of course), and has the villain as a metahuman able to control people through song, and in turn make them sing (different to his powers here, which appear to be more god-like).

It homages a couple of classic musicals itself, including West Side Story and Phantom of the Opera, and features characters like Batman, Black Canary, and Green Arrow all singing.
