The Handmaid's Tale Season 2: 7 Ups & 3 Downs From 'Seeds'

As June was only returned to her captivity in last week's episode, we were expecting the narrative to maintain a status quo for the time being. After accepting her fate and becoming Offred once more, June showed no signs of wanting to escape in this week's episode. She performed her handmaid duties, attempted to burn the rebels' letters and only spoke when spoken to. It was a slow episode. Or at least it was in the beginning.

Over the course of the episode, Serena's attempts to bully June had an adverse effect on the baby. While using the toilet, the handmaid realised that she was bleeding. However, she didn't panic — or show any emotion, really — and simply placed a piece of toilet roll in her underwear and carried on with her daily duties. But as the psychological torture continued, June began bleeding profusely.

As Nick headed to his house consummate his marriage, he spotted June lying in the wet garden, covered in blood. It was sudden and shocking, and certainly not something we were expecting. Had June attempted to take her own life? It would appear so.
