The Mandalorian 2.6 Review - 7 Ups And 1 Down From Chapter 14

While it certainly looked as though Boba was being set up to be another foe for Din to overcome this season - and there's still a chance that could happen - it was a pleasant surprise to see The Mandalorian take a different path with the character.

Boba has been depicted having a strict code of armour in the new canon and we see it come into play here when he decides to team up with Din to get Grogu back, even after he got his armour. That is such a cool team-up no matter how you cut it, and it's made even better by the insights the episode provides into Fett's own personal history.

First, we learn that Boba's armour was actually Jango's, only repainted. It had previously been implied in other Star Wars fiction that Boba had simply modelled his armour on his father's garb, but this is a nice change that further strengthens the connection between the Original and Prequel trilogies.

More interesting, though, is that Chapter 14 also reveals that Jango Fett was a true Mandalorian. We discover that Jango was a foundling who fought in the Mandalorian Civil War, as opposed to just another bounty hunter who wore Mandalorian armour. That brings the character's backstory more in line with what we saw in Legends, and does away with the idea that Jango was merely appropriating Mandalorian weaponry, as had been speculated over the last couple of years.

As a side, Boba also seems genuinely anxious about the Empire's return. He dealt with them a lot in the Original Trilogy, but here's hoping we learn more about his relationship with the regime as the show progresses.
