The Mandalorian Season 3: Everything We Know So Far

4. Din And Bo-Katan Will Have To Fight For The Throne

The Mandalorian Chapter 12
Lucasfilm

Mandalorians have a ton of cultural traditions and hang-ups, especially in regards to their succession process. Since the previous rulers (Satine and Maul) are both dead, the new ruler of Mandalore must display the Darksaber to prove their claim to the throne. Easy enough, right? But as Gideon corrected when Din tried handing Bo-Katan the Darksaber, that isn't enough. You have to WIN the Darksaber by fighting and killing its current owner.

Obviously since Din was the one to defeat Gideon, this makes Bo-Katan becoming ruler nowhere near as clean cut as she needs it to be.

Din even tries to hand it back to her regardless, but to Bo-Katan, the Mandalorian code of honor and ancient traditions are sacrosanct.

Anyone even marginally familiar with the concepts of planting and payoff know exactly where this is going. Two of the biggest badasses in Mandalorian history are inevitably going to come to blows over this. Now whether or not they start with that to get it out of the way or Din spends the whole conflict to retake Mandalore trying to find a way out of fighting one of the deadliest people in the galaxy, is something we'll just have to wait and see.
