The Mandalorian Series 1 Review: 7 Ups And 2 Downs
How did Disney's first Star Wars TV show hold up?
At a time of peak division between Star Wars fans, The Mandalorian had a serious undertaking on its hands. Could it be one of the first Disney-fronted Star Wars efforts to avoid controversy, or at the very least a divisive response?
Well, for the most part, yes. Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni's The Mandalorian is easily one of the best offerings this franchise has put out, live-action or otherwise. While the new trilogy of films suffers from what feels like more of the same, the show strikes a nerve thanks to its refreshingly grounded direction, endearing characters, and superb action scenes brought on by a terrific ensemble of directors.
Superseding the typical 'Chosen One' storyline, this show's just about one bounty hunter who accepts a job far more complicated than he could've ever expected. Boasting the feel of a western set in the far future, you'd be hard-pressed to find a big-budget sci-fi that scratches that Firefly itch like The Mandalorian.
This feels like a genuinely-realized vision of showrunners with plenty of ideas to spare and it's a promising start to what will hopefully be a creative-driven streak of Disney+ exclusives.
