The Office: 10 Best Characters Only In One Episode

5. Brenda Matlowe

Benjamin Franklin The Office
NBC

Episode: Season 2, Episode 11 - "Booze Cruise"

Portrayed By: Brenda Withers

In many ways, a character who only shows up once in The Office becomes memorable in the way they get the main characters to play off their presence. Brenda Matlowe is one such character, and her very presence in "Booze Cruise" made Michael act crazier than usual.

In the episode, the team from Dunder Mifflin goes on a Booze Cruise as a so-called "leadership training exercise," and Brenda comes along for the ride. She's apparently there to see how Michael's cruise idea works for other branches in the company, but he's pretty sure she was sent by Jan to spy on him.

Ostensibly, this is done to see if his cruise idea was truly a legitimate business expense, so seeing Brenda as a spy makes Michael act in a predictable way. As people are having fun and enjoying themselves, he constantly interrupts everything to inject a lesson on business leadership.

Brenda only appeared in one episode, but her character was referenced in several that followed. In "The Carpet," Jim left her a voicemail, asking her out while in "Take Your Daughter to Work Day," Jim declines a dinner invitation for Abby, and it is speculated that he was on a date with Brenda.
