The Office: 10 Best Characters Who Appeared After Season One
1. Erin Hannon
The more cartoonish leadings of late Office damaged some characters, most notably Dwight and Kevin. One consistent source of humour, though, was the delightfully daft Erin Hannon. Played by Ellie Kemper, later to play similarly goodhearted goofball Kimmy Schmidt, she’s just grounded enough to feel like a human being while given free reign to mine huge laughs in the show’s latter days.
Erin’s a liability who doesn’t understand much about much, but will throw herself wholeheartedly into anything. As a result, she ends up in some ludicrous situations - in a relationship with Gabe, by whom she is literally repulsed, and later fleeing to Florida due to the abundance of office drama.
While she’s certainly a silly character, she also falls into a terrifically sweet platonic relationship with Michael. Erin, an orphan, comes to see her manager as a paternal figure, and this does just as much as his romance with Holly to finally mature the character. The scenes bring out the best in both characters.
Erin is another character who could go terribly wrong, but through the spectacular performance and the fact she’s clearly very fun to write for, she feels as though she’s been at Dunder Mifflin the whole time.
