The Office: 10 Best Characters Who Appeared After Season One

3. Gabe Lewis

Pity poor Zach Woods, who’s basically played the same character his whole career. With his gangling frame and willingness to play the butt of every joke, he can add Gabe Lewis to the long list of bizarre and off-putting weirdos he’s portrayed on TV. The thing is, he’s so great at it.

Gabe turns up in season six as part of the Sabre takeover, and is immediately everybody’s least favourite person in the office. He’s self serious and proud of his status, but beyond sycophantic towards Jo and an inveterate people pleaser.

The writers love to pile bizarre character notes and indignities upon Gabe, who we later learn to have a sinister infatuation with extreme horror, a remarkable Lady Gaga costume, and a body most people can’t bear to touch.

Woods gleefully commits to the character’s more unpleasant side, as he turns the odd but harmless weirdo into a full-on creep. His brief relationship with Erin ends as badly as you’d imagine, and his subsequent spitefulness is made funny rather than nasty due to the sheer ludicrous ineptness of Gabe.
