The Office Cast: Where Are They Now?
5. Paul Lieberstein
Another writer coaxed in front of the camera, Paul Lieberstein made Toby Flenderson, hangdog HR rep, a hilarious character and the butt of every joke. Lieberstein was always good value for a gag, while serving as showrunner for four seasons.
Lieberstein was set to run Dwight Schrute spin off The Farm, but this was soon scrapped after an unlovable backdoor pilot. He produced the short lived but fun supernatural sitcom Ghosted (starring Craig Robinson). He also has a credit on Space Force, the new show from Netflix creator Greg Daniels.
As a producer and director he worked on six episodes of Aaron Sorkin’s self satisfied drama The Newsroom. He also appeared in five episodes of high concept sitcom People of Earth, playing an alien assassin.
In 2018 Lieberstein wrote, directed, and starred in feature film Song of Back and Neck. A well cast indie, Lieberstein is in familiar territory as Fred Trolleycart, somewhat of a sad sack and a pushover, though with a repressed anger rarely seen in the demure Toby Flenderson.
