The Office: The Impossible Nellie Bertram Quiz

It’s easy to forget that Catherine Tate was ever in The Office: An American Workplace.

Appearing for the first time really late in the show with season 7’s Search Committee episode, Nellie Bertram quickly became a regular fixture in its final few seasons. At the time Tate was mostly an unknown in the United States but had been a majorly popular television comedy star in the United Kingdom for many years prior.

Although Nellie would eventually become a popular character with fans of the show, The Office creators did admit that her introduction to Dunder Mifflin didn’t exactly go the way they hoped. The writers admitted they made a huge mistake in introducing Nellie as a conniving schemer and it took a while before the more relatable and human Nellie Bertram could emerge as a fully rounded character.

One interesting bit of trivia about Nellie is that the final script had her revealing she once applied for a job at Wernham Hogg which was the fictional company in Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s original version of The Office in the UK.
