There's no other character in The Office quite like Ryan Howard, the office temp who gets promoted far past his station, leading to him growing a planet-sized ego and eventually ended up in handcuffs.
There is certainly a relatability to Ryan in the early days - the apathetic low-level employee who has little interest in his job or the people in it, but of course, Ryan evolved to become a douchebag of the highest order.
Beyond his run-in with the law, Ryan's infuriating self-interest and tendency to have drama gravitate towards him made him one of the show's most contemptible figures, to say nothing of his dumpster fire of a relationship with Kelly Kapoor (Mindy Kaling).
