Klaus, the original hybrid vampire, is the oldest of all existing ones. A bastard until a certain time, not knowing about his true ancestry, Klaus grew up considering himself a full-fledged member of the Mikaelson family, and sincerely wondered why his father was stricter with him than with his siblings.

Due in part to overwhelming loneliness, Klaus seems to revel in violence and chaos. By accepting his role as being perpetually alone, he was able to take control of that pain, transforming himself from prey to predator.

Joseph Morgan's character was an unstable psychopath who didn't care about anything but his own life; he sacrificed people to become even more powerful and intimidating. He was a cruel and heartless egoist who was incapable of doing right and good deeds.

However, Klaus' personality transformed throughout the series. With each episode, new facets of Klaus' character were revealed to the fans. Eventually, he started to show himself as a person who cares about the fate of other people, who loves his family, and who is ready to patronize and protect them in every possible way.
