The Rock Producing 80's Set Wrestling Drama at NBC

A one hour pilot based around the world of 1980's wrestling is put into development at NBC and will be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and The Rock!

Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson was a teenager for much of the 80's whilst his father Rocky Johnson was a star of the World Wrestling Federation. Now the Hollywood actor who unquestionably became one of the biggest stars of sports entertainment history has just teamed up with Hollywood mega producer Jerry Bruckheimer to setup a wrestling t.v. drama at NBC, set in the wrestling era of his father. A one hour pilot based around the world of 1980's wrestling has been put into production which Spartacus: Blood and Sand writers Brent Fletcher and Seamus Kevin Fahey co-executive producing & scripting. Johnson would also executive produce but there is no mention of him starring. The Hollywood Reporter don't have any further details on the deal or what the proposed show will be about specifically (presumably an up and coming young wrestler in an era where the sport was taking off?) but it's an intriguing project for Dwayne Johnson to be attached as he is becoming less paranoid now about his blood ties to wrestling. Of course he already has his first match in years booked for next year's Wrestlemania - a main event bout against John Cena. More info on this 80's show when we get it but if it doesn't involve the equivalents of Hulk Hogan and Mr T then I just don't want to know.
