The Simpsons: 10 Best Ever Treehouse Of Horror Stories

2. Nightmare On Evergreen Terrace (Treehouse of Horror VI)

Riffing on Nightmare On Elm Street, the shape-shifting form of Groundskeeper Willie starts claiming the lives of the children in vengeance for the time that the adults of Springfield ignored Willie€™s pleas for help while burning alive in favour of allowing Kirk Van Houten to continue outlining his concerns about Milhouse eating two spaghetti meals in one day. Fortunately, Maggie€™s on hand to save the day with a well-placed pacifier in a valve of the tartan bagpipe-spider version of Willie (long story) which they fight to the death.

This segment also features one of the best lines in any episode of The Simpsons: €œLousy Smarch weather.€ Don€™t try to analyse it. It€™s just a slice of idiocy so pure and excellent that it defies any attempt to rationalise it. A town which bends to the whims of a misprinted calendar is probably not a town I want to spend time around, but as evidence of the collective stupidity of the inhabitants there€™s little to match it.
