The Simpsons: 10 Best Treehouse Of Horror Episodes
8. Treehouse Of Horror III
With just two previous Halloween specials under their belts way back in 1992, the concept was still relatively new, and the show was far from running low on ideas. However, this did mean that the writers could utilise much simpler stories after just six previous segments, in comparison to having done almost 100 now.
Two of the three segments in the third Treehouse of Horror episode were relatively simple, possibly a bit too much so. 'King Homer' was a standard King Kong spoof, with Homer as the titular ape trying to run amok in downtown Springfield before getting too tired to continue.
Similarly, 'Dial Z For Zombies' closed out the show with a straight forward zombie movie style story, highlighted by Homer's spree of killing Ned Flanders, George Washington, Albert Einstein, and William Shakespeare.
Without question, easily the best aspect of this episode is the first entry, 'Clown Without Pity'. After a classic interaction with a creepy store owner, Homer brings Bart what appears to be a cursed Krusty doll, though it isn't until after he is nearly killed that they realise the toy was simply set to its evil mode. This is a very strong Treehouse of Horror story, slightly let down by the other two in the episode.
