The Simpsons: 10 Best Villains Ever
7. Molloy
Finally some Golden Era representation; something that will be a heavy theme on the rest of the list. Molloy, voiced by Jurassic Park’s Sam Neill, is Springfield’s resident cat burglar, eventually caught by Homer after Abe helps him piece the (glaringly obvious) clues together.
The pacing of the episode is spot on, introducing Molloy early but keeping him out of the limelight until he can be most effective.
Effortlessly charming, eloquent and endlessly polite, Molloy steals from everyone around town without remorse or prejudice. Coming relatively early in the show’s run, the items Molloy takes gives us an interesting insight into the personalities of the Springfieldites, as well as a great gag where Nelson calls Bart to ‘ha-ha!’ about his stolen stamp collection.
This charm sees Molloy surrender into Springfield jail without a struggle, but sees him talk his way out just as easily too. After telling Chief Wiggum and Homer that he’s buried his fortune under ‘a big T’, he sparks a frenzy as the whole town search for it.
The whole thing is a giant con, of course, and Molloy slips out of the jail and out of Springfield forever. So long, Molloy, we hardly knew thee.
