The Simpsons: 10 Greatest Apu Moments
4. The Be Sharps
Apu plays a huge part in one of the most iconic episodes The Simpsons have ever done. Along with Homer, Principal Skinner and Chief Wiggum (soon to be replaced by Barney Gumble), Apu forms part of a Grammy winning barbershop quartet. In one of their first flashback episodes, The Simpsons charts the rise and fall of Homer’s band.
With humble beginnings in Moe’s, the chart topping potential of Baby On Board sees them picked up by an agent. He brings them success, but ditches Apu’s last name (it’ll never fit on a marquee, love) for De Beaumarchais.
Parodying The Beatles (Apu was the Fifth Beatle, after all), we see the band go off the rails as Barney’s Japanese girlfriend pushes him away from barbershop and into more experimental sounds. Homer’s song writing quickly deteriorates and the band decides to call it quits when they end up in the Not section of Hot Or Not.
They do at least get back together for one last gig on Moe’s roof. Not that it impresses George Harrison much. Or Chief Wiggum, for that matter, who orders their arrest as the episode closes.
