The Simpsons: 10 Most Overrated Episodes

4. King Size Homer (Season 7, Episode 7)

There are some very good moments in this episode - particularly the moment when Marge confides in Homer that at his enormous size she is struggling to find him sexually attractive. It is a boldly honest and moving examination of intimacy between a married couple and probably stands out as the high point in this episode. And overall you can certainly find a lot worse episodes than 'King Size Homer'. But overall it€™s very arguable that this one deserves the overwhelming credit that it often gets. King Size Homer astonishingly stands as the ninth highest ranked episode by IMDB users, and it€™s hard to enter a discussion (in the online world or the real world) about the Simpsons best episodes without this one popping up. Part of this is no doubt because the episode simply because it stands out in people€™s imagination. The sight of Homer in a Mumu and cheese cutter cap is hilarious and has become an iconic image for Simpsons fans globally. But aside from these flashes of an obese Homer€™s fashion choices, and the phone company recorded message stating that his hand is too fat to dial the phone, the gags and heart of this episode simply aren€™t abundant enough for this to be anywhere near a discussion of best ever episodes. The tenderness between Homer and Marge that is showcased is often undercut too often by more mean spirited jokes, and a selfishness on the behalf of Homer that marks a trend that has become far more pronounced in the weaker, later years of the show.
