The Simpsons: 10 Most Underrated Characters

8. Jasper Beardly

The Simpsons Sideshow Mel
Fox

There are few characters as consistently hilarious and brimming with one-liners as Jasper Beardly, a resident at the local retirement and friend of Grandpa Simpson.

During his tenure on the show, Jasper hasn't really had an episode to himself, but when he does show up on screen it's always to offer up a memorable subplot and steal the show with a zany one-liner that you'll be quoting for years to come.

Jasper has been shot through his wooden leg ("You shot who in the what now?"), locked in a freezer at the Kwik-E-Mart, had his beard churned up by a pencil sharpener, burned by an Olympic torch and has a heart attack only to be saved by Homer.

Also, who could ever forget his paddlin' speech when he becomes at teacher at Springfield Elementary? It's comedy gold, and just goes to show how brilliant a comedic presence Jasper is.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
