The Simpsons: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Season 1

4. Writers' Night Out

The plot of "Homer's Night Out" is meant to be about misogyny, masculinity, and how father figures should always set a good example for their impressionable young sons.

But really... it's about strippers.

Jokes aside, there are a lot of strip clubs in this episode. When trying to track down and apologise to Princess Kashmir, Homer takes Bart to several seedy establishments and unwittingly exposes him to far more than he saw in that one photo.

Clearly keen to "do their research", the writing team actually went out into the field for this episode.

According to the director, Rich Moore, they visited many different strip clubs in Hollywood to get "inspiration" for the interior designs of the ones in Springfield.

In fact, the club in which Homer finds Princess Kashmir is actually based on the Seventh Veil Strip Club in LA, which currently has a 3.5 star review on Yelp if you're interested.

Whilst you could take this as a sign that the Simpsons writers took their research for the show incredibly seriously, I think it's far more likely that this "research" was just a good ol' fashioned excuse to put Rupert Murdoch's money back into the "local economy".
