The Simpsons: 15 Most Underrated Golden Age Episodes

10. Grade School Confidential

Mr Lisa Goes To Washington
Fox

As beautiful as it is heart-wrenching, this masterpiece contains possibly the most natural feeling relationship in the series. Well, outside of Homer and Marge, of course. It’s definitely better than the likes of Burns and Smithers, anyway.

It sadly didn't remain a staple of the series as it should have and it never will, with the untimely passing of Marcia Wallace, Edna Krabappel’s voice actor in late 2013.

Strangely enough, for a season 8 episode, it remains light on the laughs until the end, in the perfect imbuement of saving the best for last. Hitting us with the standout “virgin joke” that left the audience - of 24 years ago - flabbergasted as much as satisfied.

It’s sad that The Simpsons conformed to pressing the reset button for so long. This plot wasn’t so much an experiment written for a show soon to finish its run. It felt more expansive, trying to broaden the scope, creating drama, almost like somebody had opened a door that could’ve led to a boundless amount of places.

Speaking of opening doors, when Edna and Skinner are caught in the cupboard kissing and...”swearing”, it’s genuinely upsetting to know such previously lonely people are going to be reverting to their miserable lives. Well, until the last moment when the principal’s principles go out the window and he reveals himself to be one crafty dog.
