10. I Will Not Demand What I'm Worth (Season 9, Episode 20 - The Trouble With Trillions)
This episode originally aired on April 5, 1998, and is a reference to the pay dispute that the principal voice cast had with Fox. At the time, the cast were being paid $30,000 per episode, and when Fox considered re-casting the actors (and even began casting calls), Matt Groening stuck his neck out to defend them. As a result of the negotiations, the cast enjoyed a pay hike to $125,000 per episode until 2004, when they opened up negotiations again. The episode was aired amid production for the tenth season, and so was likely added by the show's team as an ironic show of support for the voice actors, given the rather unprecedented amount of control Fox gave to the show's creative team.
