The Simpsons: 8 Episodes From The Bad Seasons You Need To Watch

The Season 29 finale features a similarly ambitious plot to Season 19's Eternal Moonshine Of The Simpson Mind. They don't go this big very often, so this episode deserves praise here.

The episode features Bart in a coma, with Lisa whispering in his ear to mess with him. A few criticised this as being out of character for Lisa, but this criticism seems to forget that Lisa is a mere 8 years old and will not always act as a paragon of perfection. Criticism is more deservedly aimed at Marge's absence; she plays a strangely small role considering her special little guy is in a coma.

While the outside of Bart's head is the typical slightly jumbled smorgasbord of the current Simpsons, the inside is where this episode shines. The ghost of Maude returning offers a new dynamic for Bart to bounce off, and Lisa's whisperings informing events inside Bart's inner workings makes for a great idea, though it could be leaned on harder.

As with a lot of Season 29 episodes though (King Leer, Springfield Splendor...) the animation itself rules the roost. If you want to see how far they've come from the Ullman shorts, you have to see this episode.
