The Simpsons: Every Golden Age Season Ranked
2. Season 6
Best offerings: "Treehouse of Horror V", "Homer Badman", "And Maggie Makes Three".
Taking the silver trophy for the much endeared Golden Age of one of television's most decadent franchises is the imperative sixth season. A season that extrapolated not only every positive element of seasons prior, but perfected the formula masterfully. With a substantial focus placed on the family - challenged only by the first two seasons - season 6 is a viewing experience that innovates, replicates and even introduces a myriad of defining factors that make the show so well cherished today.
Giving birth to the legendary two-parter - Who Shot Mr. Burns - which left the audience on a cliffhanger until the debut of the following season, the parody of Dallas' infamous "Who shot JR?" was just as prevalent on pop-culture, if not more so. The seasons seemingly unlimited collection of classic episodes (Bart's comet, Homer The Great, Homer Badman etc.) and the mastery of the technique of tagging used for the jokes, just proved that the show was firing on more than all cylinders.
Its only consequential entry is the clip show that comes early in the season, which is its only real drawback, as season 6 is practically perfection and an absolutely peremptory viewing experience for anyone. What seemed contemporaneous at the time evolved into unparalleled memorability over time.
