The Simpsons: Every Sideshow Bob Episode Ranked Worst To Best
2. Sideshow Bob Roberts
The Simpsons’ golden era produced so many glorious episodes that some great ones can get lost in the shuffle. Sideshow Bob Roberts must be one of the most underrated Simpsons episodes ever made. It has the relentless pace this period of the show is known for, a plot both silly and satirical, and a joke count most comedies would kill for.
Sideshow Bob’s rise and fall, from prison to the Major’s office and back again, allows the writers to take some well aimed shots at US politics (the Springfield Republican party includes a vampire and a stereotypical Texan), as well as some of the best pop culture spoofs they’ve done, most notably Bob’s maniacal laugh against an enormous backdrop of his own face, a la Citizen Kane.
While perhaps not the best remembered Sideshow Bob episode, it does boast some of his most iconic moments, from “attempted chemistry” to his deriding of Bart and Lisa’s truth telling abilities. Birch Barlow, a right wing shock jock, is a great addition to the show’s media landscape, and in the current climate, Sideshow Bob as a political figure doesn’t seem so unrealistic.
