It’s fair to say Nelson Muntz isn’t the typical high school bully because of his hidden heart of gold that often pops up when you least expect it. Sure we see him often be the worst of the worst in Springfield, regularly taking pleasure from the misfortune of others and then beating them up just to further punctuate the point for fun but the more we get to know Nelson, the more we do come to see that his heart is often in the right place.
So much so that you could almost claim that Nelson and Bart Simpson are actually friends and not enemies. They certainly started off as high school rivals who detested each other but over the hundreds of episodes of the show there’s more times they are actually on each other’s side than not.
And let's not forget Nelson's true feelings for Lisa Simpson which often showcase how caring and a good person Nelson may one day grow up to be.
