Oh what any of us would do to have someone like Waylon Smithers Jr in our lives. Yes, “Mr Smithers” as we so fondly know him, is the loyal and devoted personal assistant to Mr. Burns, his boss, who basically couldn’t function in life and career without him.
On a daily basis, Smithers ensures Mr Burns is bathed, fed, clothed and that his business runs with any degree of efficiency. He is truly one in a million, admitting that he effectively has one job that “is actually about 2,800 smaller jobs” and he ensures any of Mr. Burns’ wild and unusual requests are fulfilled and not only that, but meet his boss’ expectations.
It’s hinted throughout the show that Smithers is actually in love with his boss but it’s unfortunately an unrequited love. Mr. Burns rarely even gives any human affection towards his employee but Smithers, not to be deterred, is the ever reliable man at this side.
