For a long time, Futurama was a grossly underrated show. Original watchers loved the premise and the characters though some were disappointed that it wasn't at The Simpsons' level of genius. Which at the time was seeing out its golden age.
However, in the years since, Futurama has garnered a deeper appreciation from the audience - the tone of the show seems to have stood the test of time, and aged like a fine wine so that now Futurama has become a comedy classic.
Initially, the show was centred around Philip J. Fry, a delivery boy who wakes up in the year 3000 and starts fresh as a delivery boy. As the years went on, the wide cast was utilised well by the writers and what once was the three main characters of Fry, Leela, and Bender, other smaller ones were given their chances to shine.
Going back to watch Futurama now, the show does have a timeless feel to it. The humour is so broad that there really is something in there for everybody, and as a creation, Bender has become one of the most beloved animated characters of all time.
