The Walking Dead: 10 Best Antagonists

1. The Governor

Negan The Walking Dead
AMC

Love him or hate him, no character has had the level of impact yet that The Governor had on the lives of Rick and the gang over the course of the third and fourth season. While some were disappointed he made it out of the third season alive - a point beyond which some may have felt he overstayed his welcome - it's hard to deny that his ultimate final war changed the game, leaving the prison destroyed and overrun by walkers and the survivors scattered in the wind.

Responsible for the deaths of characters like Axel, Milton, Andrea, Merle, and Hershel, as well as the needless slaughter of a number of his own Woodbury "soldiers," The Governor's legacy is one that remains firmly in the forefront of everyone's mind when it comes to trusting new people. As played by David Morrissey, who managed to effortlessly move the character between charming, ruthless, and outright psychotic, the cycloptic antagonist's significance on the series and its characters can't be understated.

Although the character may have been a divisive one among fans of the series -- truly, he's one who people either loved seeing on screen or hated wasting time with -- the damage he wrought upon the survivors as a group and as individuals is astounding, and though Negan and the Saviors are bound to give him a run for his money next season, for now he remains the biggest, most influential antagonist yet.
