Thanks to his cowardice costing Noah's life and his attempt to kill Glenn in the fifth season, it was hard not to root to see Nicholas get what was coming to him. At the start of season six, however, it seemed that he and Glenn had begun to overcome their strife, with the latter keeping the former under his thumb and in line, the show itself challenging viewers to have faith in Glenn's belief in second chances and hope for the best out of Nicholas.

So when the third episode of the season started and suggested that something was up with the increasingly-frazzled Nicholas, it was easy to get worried. When he and Glenn found themselves atop a dumpster and surrounded by walkers, Nicholas' cowardly nature came rushing back full-force, the character taking no time to work with Glenn on finding a way out of their predicament before putting a gun to his own head and blowing his brains out.
