The Walking Dead: 10 Great Moments When The Show Ignored The Comic

9. Rick And Company Visit The CDC

After the Atlanta camp was savaged by a herd of walkers, it forced the crew out of their safe spot. As they hit the road in search of salvation, they eventually found their way to the CDC, the Center for Disease Control. It was manned by the remaining survivor, a man who was working on a cure for the zombie outbreak, a man named Dr. Edwin Jenner. Before the Atlanta survivors arrived, Jenner was planning to off himself, much like the other scientists who had opted out. Although he kept a dark secret from the group, there was a feeling among them that this may be their new home. But it was not to be, as Jenner revealed that the CDC building was about to go up in flames and locked everyone inside. While a few members seemed perfectly happy with this, satisfied to avoid the deadly fate that was waiting for them, Rick Grimes is not the kind of man to simply give up. Though Jenner insisted that he could not open the doors, Rick gave a passionate speech, arguing for them to at least try and survive the harsh reality of the outside. He eventually relented, but Jacqui remained inside, staring peacefully into the eyes of Jenner as they both perished in the flames. The group's visit to the CDC is completely unique to the tv show, and is one of the best sequence of events the show has ever done. Ominous secrets become prime ammunition for story beats later, including a scuffle between Shane and Lori, and Jenner whispering something mysterious into Rick's ear as they leave. By including this little detour on the road from the Atlanta camp to Hershel's farm, you were able to give the group a lot of things to mull over, and create some standout drama along the way.
