The Walking Dead: 10 Great Moments When The Show Ignored The Comic

8. Dale And Andrea

While the comic book version of Dale and Andrea were nearly polar opposites to their tv counterparts, it was ultimately for the best of the series. The tv version of the characters were full of drama, anchored by spectacular actors in Jeffrey DeMunn (Dale) and Laurie Holden (Andrea). The comic versions were a bit less antagonistic with each other, even to the point of becoming lovers for a bit. With that said, it was somewhat harder to believe the tv versions being anywhere close to that. In fact, they were more like a bickering father and daughter. Much like the comic version, Dale had lost his wife during the initial outbreak, and eventually came to being the caretaker of Andrea and her sister Amy. After Amy's death in season one, Dale became even more protective of Andrea, even taking her gun. This strained their relationship even further, and the two of them seemed to be quietly drifting away from each other. But it was during the first season finale, "TS-19", where the ultimate Dale and Andrea moment happened. After the group arrived at the CDC, and came under the eye of Dr. Jenner, it became clear that Dale and Andrea wanted different things. The chance to be free of the brutal world seemed to be attractive to Andrea, who was content to die in the explosion set to claim the CDC. And after realizing that Andrea was dooming herself, Dale seemed okay with this and decided to stay. This was the beginning of the rift in their relationship, as Andrea saw it as Dale taking her choice away. Their relationship would never truly recover, and stands out as a stark example of completely new drama being created from loose comic elements.
